In Minnetonka, we believe that educational technology is an important tool to accelerate learning, promote innovative mindsets, and strengthen student success. The district's adopted beliefs are the foundation for every decision. Technology will continue to evolve, and we support students to use it in healthy, balanced, ethical, and safe ways.
Technology is a means that adds value by: empowering students to know and access tools and resources, encouraging individuals to approach problems creatively and collaborate skillfully, encouraging students to apply understanding to new and existing situations, providing access to tools that address each individual student's needs, providing each student unique opportunities that promote voice and voice, increasing engagement and excitement in daily learning, and increasing overall efficiency and effectiveness in school processes.
All students in Kindergarten through 12th grade are issued an iPad for educational use as part of our 1:1 iPad program. Students in grades 6-12 bring their device home daily. K-5 student devices are stored and charged at school. If K-5 devices come home on occasion, the classroom teacher will communicate the specific expectation and educational purpose for that device coming home.
Minnetonka Public Schools want to ensure students develop the skills and knowledge necessary to responsibly navigate this emerging modern world. Therefore, since 2011, we have implemented a 1:1 (student to computing device) program using the Apple iPad.
